Title Bugatti Type 43 Register and Data Book
Author(s) Jack du Gan
Publisher Jack du Gan
ISBN nr. 978 88 8466 119 7
Review The first part of the book consists of background information on the Type 43. It places the Type 43 in its historical setting, covering the design and the development.
Then there are contemporary descriptions of the Type 43, including road tests from automobile magazines. A seperate chapter covers the racing history of this type, including many interesting photographs. Current activity like auctions, replicas is also mentioned. The last chapter of the first part gives information about maintenance and overhauling.

The second part (also the largest part) of the book is formed by the register of the known Type 43s. The cars are described in detail, with as much as possible the addition of the numbers of their major components. The history of the cars is described and previous owners are mentioned.
With a large number of cars, the reports from Bugatti consultant David Sewell are added, giving much detailed information about the respective car when inspected by Sewell. All in all it is a very interesting book and a must have for the Bugatti enthusiast.

Title Bugatti, The 8-cylinder touring cars 1920-1934
    Author(s) Barrie Price & Jean-Louis Arbey
    Publisher Veloce Publishing
    ISBN nr. 978 1 901295 95 5
Review This book is in the line of its predecessors, the books about the Type 40, the Types 46 and 50 and the Type 57. It offers a lot of photographs, of which many have not been published before. The information is a bit unstructured, the book comprising of a large number of chapters covering different aspects. Besides being unstructured, it lacks in depth information. Maybe that is due to the relatively wide range of models covered, the Types 28, 30, 38a, 44 and 49.

Maybe if the development of these touring cars was described in chronological order, the similarities and differences between the different types would have been explained better. The book starts with the Type 44 development and chassis. The book contains a lot of interesting drawings, besides photographs of parts. There are a few very short chapters, the personal story of the restauration of a Type 49, There are chapters on Gangloff and Concours d'Elégance, and the familiar chapters with the different styles of bodywork, illustrated with numerous photographs. This book is not a must have, more a nice to have.

    Title Bugatti Argentina
Author(s) Cristián Bertschi & Estanislao Iacona
    Publisher Whitefly
    ISBN nr. 978 987 23378 0 3
Review The book is the succesor to Alfa Romeo Argentina, the first book of the authors published in 2005. Bugatti Argentina was a logical step for them, researching the history of the marque in Argentine. Both authors presented the book on the Retromobile show in Paris in february 2007.

The book describes the relation between Bugatti and Argentine from an historical point of view. It is offset against the cultural and economical background of Argentine in the 20s and 30s. There is a chapter about the unsuccesful mission of Martin de Álzage Unzué to Indianapolis in 1923 with three Type 30s, added with two additional cars for Count Zborowski and Prince de Cystria.

Then there is a chapter about the first Bugattis in Argentine, describing how these European cars were breaking the domination of US cars in Argentine so far.
The races are dealt with in chronological order, by year or couple of years together. The information is very detailed, concluded with a table of results. There is a separate chapter on the ex Achille Varzi Type 51 owned by Roberto Mieres.
A seperate chapter is dedicated to the races with Type 52 in the Zoo of Buenos Aires, as a significant number of 23 little cars were imported to be rented at the Zoo. At the end is the register, containing the now know Bugattis in Argentine.

The book is not a bargain but it tells the history of Bugatti in Argentine quite well. It includes a number of interesting photographs and separate information of certain people of interest as well. Although the focus on Argentine makes it quite specific of course, it makes interesting reading.
